The Love Story Diamond brand is a nationwide symbol of diamond distinction and value. It includes five assorted collections of jewelry based on the most engaging love stories of all time.
How Diamonds Are Judged
Most often diamonds are evaluated by their color, cut, clarity and carat.
Cut refers to the pattern followed by our master gemcutters to create the sparkle that diamonds are famous for. The skill with which a diamond is cut determines its ability to reflect and refract light. It is commonly accepted that a well-cut diamond can look as though it has a greater carat weight, clarity and color than it actually does.
Colorless, or icy white, diamonds are the most prized and most expensive. The slightly colored diamonds are less valuable than the perfectly white or boldly colored red, yellow, and blue "fancies." The 45.52 carat Hope Diamond, on display at the Smithsonian, is remarkable in part for its prized cornflower blue color.
Carat weight calculates the mass of a diamond. One carat is equivalent to one fifth of one gram, or roughly 200 milligrams. With everything else being equal, the worth of a diamond gains exponentially in relation to carat weight because larger diamonds are more rare and more desirable for use as gemstones.
Clarity is the term used to describe a diamond’s clearness or purity. Taken into consideration are the number, size, nature, and location of imperfections on the finished gemstone. Internal flaws are called inclusions, and external ones are called blemishes. Many of these are not visible to the naked eye, but under magnification, tiny featherlike shapes, crystals, bubbles, and dark flecks become apparent. These marks are as distinctive and recognizable as fingerprints -- in fact, they are commonly referred to as the diamond’s fingerprint. The more imperfections there are in a diamond and the more visible they are to the naked eye, the lower the market value.
